Problem: Needed a flexible payment solution that made it easy for customers to shop for gift cards

When the Corona pandemic hit Norway in the spring of 2020, the ticket supplier Hoopla had to adapt and find new earning opportunities. Instead of laying off its employees, it started a side project called Givn— a flexible gift card platform that makes it easy for local businesses to sell gift cards that customers actually use.

Gift cards on the user’s terms

Every year, gift cards with a total value of over two billion kroner are left gathering dust in Norwegians’ drawers. Givn wanted to address this, with user-friendly, digital gift cards that can be used for both products and experiences.

“Most of us have experienced finding an old gift card that we cannot use because, for example, it has expired or is subject to other restrictions. In our opinion, these restrictions are not fair to the user,” says general manager of Givn, Knut Hellik Kvale.

Givn therefore offers an extension guarantee and also sends SMS reminders to ensure that the gift cards are used.

“Our business model consists of taking a small fee from the companies that sell gift cards on the platform. We earn neither more nor less on gift cards that are not used for one reason or another. If they are not used, the money goes back to the companies. Our highest priority is to take care of consumers – without any tricks,” says Knut.

Solution: Implemented the payment solution Nets Easy, which ensures good conversion thanks to, among other things, the possibility of Vipps payment

The users of Givn include everyone from the grandmother who wants to give a present to her grandchild, to large companies who want to buy local experiences as Christmas presents for their employees. In order to take payment from everyone who wants to buy gift cards via their platform, Givn has implemented Nets Easy— a payment solution they selected for several reasons.

“In addition to payment by credit cards, Easy offers both Vipps and invoice payments. We are very pleased with that. In this way, we meet the needs of the customers who shop with us. It is simply a very flexible payment solution that gives us good conversions,” says Knut. He adds:

“About half of our customers use Vipps to pay. I never thought it would be this high. People have become very accustomed to using Vipps now – young and old alike – and that undoubtedly helps to increase our conversion. At the same time, we know that there are many people who appreciate being able to split the payment.”

Result: Givn has grown by 110%, helped by a payment solution that ensures increased conversion

Planning to expand to Sweden

As a company, Givn has experienced an remarkable growth since its inception, and it is now planning to expand into the Swedish market.

“Now we have our eyes on Sweden. In that sense, it is very nice to have Nets Easy, as it already supports Swish payments. We had actually investigated that before choosing a payment solution. That makes it very easy for us to scale,” says Knut, who says that he is very satisfied with the collaboration with Nets Easy.

“We are very concerned about creating the simplest possible customer journey, and I feel that Nets shares the same way of thinking as us. The collaboration has been top notch, and at the same time the implementation has been smooth sailing. And should we have any questions, we will receive an answer by e-mail within a short time,” he concludes.
